Does not penetrate and seems it would be more or a paint. So you would want 3 coats of polyurethane on top of it. many people don’t get the color the expect with weathered oak.

I would not say they are the same thing, but they both are a polymerized oil, and might even have a little tung oil in the mix. I like the MTOF better than Watco when I want an oil finish. take more coats to build up my standard finish, and took longer to dry. For these an additional step between sanding and staining is recommended – applying a layer of a sealer. A lot of different things can be used as a sealer, but if you are dealing with one of these woods, you might want to buy a “sanding sealer” and follow the directions. Myself, I would probably use a Minwax stain, they’re pretty good. I’d probably seal with a water-based poly, or blonde shellac .
